Jodi, I never think what I write is good so I wouldn't know good if it jumped up and bit me on the butt! LOL....but I do appreciate you being anxious for the next chapter. Maybe I'll get to work on it some tonight while I'm home alone.

Chapter 18
Home, John thought looking up at the two story colonial house in front of him. It had been 6 months since he had first come back to Llanview to visit. Once they returned to Memphis, he and Sam had been shuttling back and forth on weekends to see Natalie as often as possible. She had even been able to make a couple of trips to see them. Sam had insisted on taking her to Graceland while she was there. And they had eaten barbeque at the world famous Rendezvous in downtown Memphis. But, John had realized after a few weeks that home for him was wherever Sam and Natalie were. And having the two separated simply wasn’t working for him. So he and Sam had talked about it, and made the decision to move to Llanview. His family was there. And most of all Natalie was there.
“Dad….hey dad?” Sam spoke waving her hand in front of his face. “You’ve been spacing out a lot more than usual lately. What’s going on?”
“I’m old remember?” he said giving his daughter a smile.
Sam laughed, “Yeah , but you’ve been old for years now, what’s up?”
Pulling her down onto the porch steps he looked at her, “I want to make sure something is ok with you before I say anything to anyone else. You know I love you right? More than anything….you are my life.” He paused, running his fingers through his hair, “You like Natalie don’t you? I mean she’s nice right?”
Sam wasn’t sure where this was going. “Yeah dad, I like her. Why?”
John didn’t know how to approach this so he decided to just come out with it, “I wanna ask her to marry….” Before he could even finish his sentence Sam had let out a whoop and launched herself into his arms.
“Yes, yes, yes, a thousand times yes!” Sam shouted.
“You didn’t let me finish what I was going to say.” John said looking at her chagrined.
“You were gonna ask me if it was ok for you to marry Natalie and the answer is yes!” Same said excitedly. “So when are you gonna ask her? Where are you gonna ask her? Have you gotten the ring yet? Can I see it?”
John’s head was spinning from all the questions, “Whoa, whoa….back up! Give me a minute to think. I hadn’t gotten any further than making sure it was ok with you. No I haven’t gotten the ring yet,” damn he thought. The ring. That was a big deal to women, he’d forgotten about that. “You have any suggestions? I mean, if you want you could go with me to the jewelry store.”
“Are you serious? You want me to help you pick out the ring?” Sam couldn’t believe her ears.
John smiled at her, “Sure. I could use the help and I want you to feel like you’re a part of this. I know you miss your mom but Natalie loves you and I know she won’t mind us picking out the ring together. She’ll be marrying both of us right? So it’s only fitting that you help out.”
Sam looked at him with tears in her eyes, “I know I don’t say this often enough, but I love you, Daddy. And even though you’ve tried to be really strong I know how hard it’s been for you since mom died. Coming back to Llanview and finding Natalie was one of the best decisions we ever made. I can see how much you love her and how happy she makes you. And I think you make her happy too. I can’t wait for us to be a family.”
“Impossible” Natalie exclaimed. “There is no way. After all this time.”
“Not only is it possible, it’s happening, Miss Buchanan. Whether you want it to or not. So---is this a good thing?” the doctor asked.
Natalie was sitting there still in a daze. She could not wrap her mind around the fact that she was-----pregnant? At 43? Shaking her head she looked up the doctor. “Are you sure? I mean, absolutely, there’s no mistake, sure?”
Smiling the doctor said, “Yes, Miss Buchanan, I’m sure. We ran the test 4 times. All positive. You’re about 10 weeks along”
Natalie got up from her chair and started for the door. “Wait, before you go,” the doctor called after her, “You need to start taking one of these each morning. This is 4 pills and here’s the prescription. They are prenatal vitamins and it’s very important that you take them. It’s good for not only the baby but you as well.”
Natalie merely nodded her head. Oh dear lord, what was she going to tell John?!

EEEEEK!!!!!!!!!!! I swear I didn't get this in my inbox! <sends death glares at Yahoo> I HATE YAHOO!!!! But I am completly in LOVE with this fic!!! It puts mine to shame I tell you!!!!!

Chapter 19
Everything was all set, John thought to himself. He’d talked to Mac and gotten him to close Rodi’s tonight so he could ask Natalie to marry him. He had flowers ordered, and the ring was already in place. Now if he could just shake this severe case of butterflies he had flying around in his stomach he’d be fine. He sighed deeply….there was no guarantee she was going to say yes, but after almost two decades apart, it was time they truly began living. And that’s how he felt. Like he’d been dead all these years and Natalie had brought him back to life. He wasn’t sure he’d ever known he could be this happy. He was praying she’d say yes.
*************************************************************************************************** Natalie had spoken with Mac and gotten him to close Rodi’s for the night. She’d hired a chef to prepare a special meal for just she and John. Tonight was the night, she thought excitedly. She had known about the pregnancy for a little over a week and hadn’t told a soul. When John questioned her about her doctor’s appointment and her new ‘vitamins’ she’d simply told him that the doctor thought she needed a little more iron and had given her some special pills to take. No big deal. And of course, John being a man, hadn’t questioned her any further. She rubbed her stomach and spoke softly, “Well, little one, tonight is the big night. We’re either going to make your dad really happy or we’re going to lose him forever.” She prayed that John would be as happy about this as she was.
A knock on the door to her office made her look up from the paperwork she’d been staring at, “Come in.” she yelled through the door.
“Hey.” John said as he stuck his head in the door. “You busy?”
Getting up from her desk she walked around and wrapped her arms around his neck, “Never too busy for you.” She said placing a soft, sweet kiss on his lips.
“What are you doing later tonight? Around 7?” he asked
“I was hoping I could find someone to take me to dinner, but so far I’ve not had any takers. I was just about to call an escort service when you knocked. Can you hang on while I go finish that call?” she smiled turning out of his arms to go back to her chair.
Reaching out and linking his hand through her arm,, he twirled her around, “Oh no you don’t. You’re going to have dinner with me.” He said kissing her soundly.
“Is that so? I don’t remember you asking me if I’d like to have dinner with you? Did you ask me? I didn’t think so.”
“Natalie, would you please have dinner with me tonight?” he graciously asked.
“Well, I don’t know….let me see…uh….” Thinking she’d tortured him enough for now she laughed, “Of course! There’s no one else I’d rather go out with.” How was she going to get him to take her to Rodi’s though. “I’m not in the mood for anything fancy. Just a burger and fries. With some mustard thrown in for good measure.”
“Rodi’s then?” he asked smiling.
“Rodi’s it is. I’ll pick you up around 6:30. See you later.” Turning to go he stopped and looked back at her, “I love you, Natalie.”
Natalie had already gone back to her paperwork but now stopped and looked up him, “I know you do. I love you too.” Knowing how difficult it had been for him to express himself at one time, she cherished every time he told her he loved her. And tonight would prove to be a true test of that love.
Driving up in the deserted parking lot of Rodi’s John was surprised that Natalie didn’t question the lack of patrons at the bar. He got out and went around to open her door. They had both dressed casually. She was wearing a pair of navy, nearly black corduroys with a periwinkle colored pullover shirt and a denim jacket. He had on black jeans, a black turtleneck and a black leather jacket.
When they walked in the lights were low, with the only brighter lights being the ones above the pool table. Natalie looked at John expecting him to ask where everyone was but he didn’t. They went and sat down at a booth opposite the pool table that had fresh cut flowers and two table settings complete with glasses of water already on it. They both thought Mac had really outdone himself tonight.
“You up for game or two before we eat?” John queried.
“I’m always up for kickin’ your butt, McBain.” She laughed.
John scoffed, “Overconfidence has lost many pool tournaments over the years.”
“I’m not overconfident, I’m that good.” She stated.
The balls were already racked on the table, “Ladies first” John said motioning for her to break. Natalie lined up and shot, putting one striped ball cleanly in the left corner pocket by the juke box. John visibly relaxed as she measured up the next shot. And missed. He immediately took charge of the table and had all but one of his solid balls sunk before missing a shot. “Have been hustling me all these years?” she grinned as she walked around to shoot.
“No. I’ve been practicing. I can’t have you always win now can I?” he whispered in her ear as she took her shot sending it far to the left.
“Hey!” she complained. “That was cheating!”
Looking all innocent John shook his head, “Nuh uh…I didn’t do nothin’. You can’t prove it anyway.” he laughed, taking his shot and sinking his final ball.
“Eight ball. Side pocket.” He called. The ball hit the tip of the pocket and bounced against the side before falling in. Grinning triumphantly John looked back at Nat who was leaning against their booth rubbing her stomach. “Hey, are you ok?” he asked.
Natalie smiled, “Yeah fine. So you ready to eat?”
“One more game before dinner ok? You rack ‘em and I’ll break.”
She pushed herself off the booth and began walking around the table reaching in the pockets for the balls and rolling them to the center. She came to the final pocket reached in and pulled out the ball in it but also a small jewelry box. She looked at it and turned to show it to John. When she did she saw him down on one knee. Her hand flew to her mouth as he began to speak.
“Aren’t you going to open it?” he asked softly.
Dumbfounded, tears began streaming down her face as she opened the box and gasped. A single square cut emerald of at least 3 carats sat surrounded by diamonds and sapphires on each side. It was the most breathtakingly beautiful ring she had ever seen. “John. Oh, my….it’s beautiful.”
“Not anywhere close to as beautiful as you. Natalie, it feels like I’ve waited my whole life to ask you this, but would you please do me the honor of becoming my wife?”
Natalie walked over to where he was still down on his knee and dropped down in front of him with the box in her hand. She placed the ring box in his hand and rose. “After dinner. I’ll give you my answer after dinner.” Walking over she sat down at their booth and put her head in her hands.
John’s heart sank as he rose from the floor and put the ring in his pocket. She was trying to think of a way to turn him down. His chest felt as if he couldn’t breathe. Forgetting all about their game he went and sat down across from her. Suddenly as if created from thin air a waiter, who would have fit in much better at the Palace, appeared beside them with two plates of food and two salads. Sitting them down he then poured John a glass of wine, while Natalie continued to drink her water. He looked down at the plate of food but had no appetite. “Aren’t you hungry?” she asked quietly.
“Not really.”
Putting down her fork she looked up at John and saw the anguish on his face. He thought she was going to turn him down. There was nothing she wanted more than to marry him,, but not before he knew the truth. Without further hesitation she spoke, “Look at your plate John. Do you notice any kind of pattern in what you’re eating or should I say not eating?”
Confused John looked at his plate….baby back ribs, carrots, peas, and a spinach salad. What was so strange about that? “Uh, what do you mean?”
“Ok, you have a baby spinach salad, with baby back ribs, baby carrots and baby snow peas.” Knowing he would catch on she paused. When he continued to stare at the food and then at her with a perplexed look on his face she started again with more emphasis, “BABY spinach, BABY back ribs….” Before she could go on John’s face showed that the pattern was sinking in.
“So what are you saying, exactly? That you want a child? That’s fine. I’d love to have another child.”
Natalie shook her head wondering how he could be a former FBI agent and be so dense, “I’m not saying I want to have a child, I’m saying I AM having a child, John. I’m pregnant.” She lowered her eyes afraid to look at him.
“You’re what?” he exclaimed. “Pregnant? That’s….that’s…..are you sure?”
“Yes, I’m sure. I found out about a week ago.”
“Wow.” He said and then getting up he spun around in a circle laughing and yelling, “Woooooo!!! I’m going to be a dad again.” He said with wonder.
“You’re sure? You’re happy about this? No regrets? No…..” before she could finish John pulled her to her feet. “I’m happy. I have no regrets, other than we were apart for far too long. I love you Natalie. And I would like to spend the rest of my life showing you how much. If you’ll let me.” He pulled the ring out of his jacket pocket. “Please say you’ll marry me now.”
Without another thought she reached for the ring and opened the box. John took the ring out and placed it on her finger. “Yes I’ll marry you, McBain. And I love you too.”

Yes! Natalie says yes. I like it Becki. If any seen the TV show called "Full House", there is an episode kind of like Becki's story. Becky trys to tell Jesse that she's pregnant. She uses "BABY" corn, "BABY" back ribs,
